Don't get in trouble because your Seller's Permit doesn't match your ABC license!
Yes, for perhaps the first time since we've started doing this work, the CDTFA is actually cracking down on this. Here's what's happening—
When the CDTFA sees that you've purchased alcohol inventory through your ABC license, and the licensee name on that does not match the name on your Seller's Permit, this can get you into trouble and you'll need to pay taxes on those purchases twice.
What's the fix?
If this is your case, here are two options to correct it—
Option1: Change the name on your Seller's Permit with the CDTFA and make sure it matches the licensee name on your ABC license
Option 2: Contact us to change the name on your ABC license instead
Option #2 is more involved and costly, but if there is a reason you need to keep your Seller's Permit name as it is, we are here to handle the ABC change for you.
EFTs & AB2991
Also, here's a brief summary of AB2991, which came into effect January 1st—
Payments to your wholesalers for delivery of beer, wine, or distilled spirits must now be by electronic funds transfer (EFT). Unless you told your wholesalers that you preferred another processor before July 1, 2025, this new law applies to you.
EFTs must occur within 30 days of the delivery, and you are responsible for your own transaction costs for those.
The only time you'll now be able to pay via some other method (cash, check) is if:
You're still within your first 30 days of having the ABC license
You're operating on a Temp or IOP
The EFT fails due to insufficient funds
The EFT is temporarily unable
And we're also here for anything else you might need.
Always feel free to reach out with any other questions. Give us a follow on Instagram and let's keep in touch.
Looking forward to continuing to assist with all your licensing needs in this new year!
